Cessna 185 Project (Disassembly and Paint)

Our most recent project is refinishing this C185. We will be repairing some structure and replacing all the windows. Then lastly we be completely repainting the aircraft. We will also be changing the tail number to N185PR. This was the tail number it wore when it served in Papua before it was retired. An retired MAF pilot bought the airplane several years ago and uses it for promoting mission work. The owner is paying for all the materials. The maintenance specialist class for which Im a part of will be providing the labor for education. This project will encompass pretty much every thing that we have learned in the past two years. We have dissembled the aircraft and have worked outa project plan that will guide us through this effort that will take us the better part of 6 months.
The next few pictures are of the horizontal and vertical stabilizers being removed.

This is the fuselage and one of the wings after all the old paint was removed. No abrasives can be used. The skin and rivets would be worn down if and thing like sandpaper is used. We used chemical strippers and simply scraped off the softened paint.

After we prepped all the parts we moved to the paint booth and started the real work. This was the the first time i was every involved in a major paint project. I learned a  lot of valuable skills.
